Poseidon was similar to Zeus in that he liked to exert power over women and flaunt his rugged masculinity. At first, Poseidon courted Thetis the Neried because she would be able to live in the sea, but once it was prophesied by Themis that their children would be greater than their father, Poseidon abandoned his attempt to wed Thetis. Poseidon then tried to court Amphitrite, but she fled to the Atlas Mountains. Poseidon sent messengers after her and Delphinus was able to convince Amphitrite into marrying Poseidon. |
